Job Summary

The Community Services Specialist at The Spectrum Network plays a crucial role in providing direct support and assistance to individuals with cognitive disabilities, mental illness, and other barriers to independent living within the employment and home-based habilitation services programs. This position involves working closely with participants to promote skill development, community integration, and successful employment outcomes.

Pay Range: Pay may vary based on experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (bachelor’s degree in human services or related field preferred)
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a related field
  • Knowledge of Iowa regulations and standards governing employment and supported community living services
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 60 pounds.
  • Physical stamina to actively participate in community activities and employment support services.

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support and assistance to individuals participating in employment and supported community living services programs.
  • Assist participants in developing and practicing daily living, social, and job readiness skills.
  • Support participants in accessing community resources, recreational opportunities, and social activities.
  • Accompany participants in job interviews, job fairs, and community-based employment opportunities.
  • Provide job coaching and support to workplace participants, including training on job tasks and accommodations as needed.
  • Document participant progress, behaviors, and interactions according to program requirements and standards
  • Collaborate with case managers, vocational rehabilitation counselors, and other team members to develop and implement individualized service plans for participants.
  • Maintain a positive and supportive relationship with participants, families, employers, and community partners.
  • Adhere to program policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of participants and compliance with regulatory standards.

Hours of Work

  • Includes weekdays with occasional evenings or weekends based on program needs.
  • Flexibility to adjust the schedule based on participant needs and program requirements.
